Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) is a trade union duly registered in terms of the Trade Unions and Employers' Organization Act and fully recognized by the employer as a bargaining agent for its members. BOPEU was founded in 2007 through unionization transformation of the then Botswana Civil Servants Association (BCSA).
BCSA evolved from the merge of the Bechuanaland Protectorate Junior Civil Service Association and the Bechuanaland Protectorate Senior European Service Association in 1960. The history of these two associations dates back to 1942.
BOPEU recruits and organizes members from Government as well as from organizations where both BOPEU and the Government have financial interest such as Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS), Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), Botswana Examination Council (BEC), Statistics Botswana, Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS), Botswana Meat Commission (BMC), Botswana Tourism Organization (BTO), Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) and Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST).
